The Lithuanian State Historical Archive (Lietuvos valstybės istorijos archyvas)
The Lithuanian State Historical Archive is the country’s oldest and most valuable archive from the perspective of the history of Lithuanian statehood, and holds documents from the important institutions of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania dating between the 15th and 18th centuries. The archive possesses different fonds of more than thirty noble families from the period of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. There is a rich collection of documents related to the different confessional comunities and institutions from the period of 15th-18th centuries. Besides original documents, the archive possesses a complete microfilm collection of the books of the Lithuanian Metrica, volumes of the chancery archive of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (14th-18th centuries). In addition, the Archive holds an array of documents belonging to confessional institutions and communities which date back to 15th century, as well as collections of personal and family documents dating from this period. There are also microfilms of documents held in the archives and libraries of Belarus, Russia, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine, and Sweden.
