Although many scholars publish their work in international journals and series, Australia also enjoys a strong academic publishing culture, as illustrated by the following publications.
Journals
Journal of the Australian Early Medieval Association
Annual peer-reviewed journal.
Parergon: Journal of the Australian and New Zealand Association for Medieval and Early Modern Studies (recent volumes can be found online at Project MUSE).
Bi-annual journal. Submissions are reviewed by an international editorial board.
Script and Print: Bulletin of the Bibliographical Society of Australia and New Zealand
Series of monographs and miscellanies
The ARC Network for Early European Research supports the publication of two series:
The LONG HISTORIES collection is dedicated to interdisciplinary studies on the influence of Europe on Australia. It is targeted towards both academic and generalist audiences. The series will be published by the University of Western Australia Press.
The EARLY EUROPEAN RESEARCH series focuses upon European society during the period 1200-1650, and explores how key aspects of the period have continued to influence the contemporary western world. The series is published by Brepols.
The Australian Catholic University’s Centre for Early Christian Studies supports several series, including Early Christian Studies (a collection of monographs) and Prayer and Spirituality in the Early Church (proceedings of triennial conferences). The Centre also manages the publication of Byzantina Australiensia (see below).
Bibliographical Society of Australia and New Zealand Occasional Publications
The Byzantina Australiensia series is sponsored by the Australian Association for Byzantine Studies (see 2. Societies and associations). It publishes many studies of Byzantine texts, but also welcomes historical and interdisciplinary works.
