Regardless of its small population Israel has a thriving community of scholars engaged in medieval studies, in the fields of history, religion studies, literature, archaeology, and art history. Since Israel is a meeting place for the three great monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam), a special emphasis is given to the study of these cultures and the interactions between them. Israel also has a unique blend of monuments ranging from Early Christian and Byzantine art to Crusaders’ and Palaeologan art.
This web page about israëlian medievalist links was conceived in 2009 by Renana Bartal. In 2015 it has been reworked and updated by Gili Shalom.
